New herbicide from MANA Canada goes toe-to-toe with Liquid Achieve

Posted: February 25, 2009

Off-patent herbicide manufacturers Makhteshim Agan of North America, Canada (MANA Canada) have announced the registration of Bison 400L. Bison contains the active ingredient tralkoxydim and provides Persian darnel, wild oat and green foxtail control in wheat and barley, with low application rates. The product is available in a 40 acre case that contains an eight litre jug of Bison and an eight litre jug of Addit adjuvant.

According to a MANA Canada news release, this is the first time tralkoxydim has been introduced into the Canadian market since Liquid Achieve. "We believe marketplace competition is good for all producers and retailers and MANA is once again delivering an alternative to that marketplace," says Dale Kushner, Canadian Commercial Business Manager for MANA Canada.

BASF accelerates phase-out of Ronilan fungicide

Posted: February 25, 2009

BASF Canada has accelerated the phase-out process of Ronilan fungicide for use on canola in Canada. According to a news release, the company's goal is to phase the product out of the Canadian marketplace by 2010.

The decision to accelerate the phase-out is based partly on the fact that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) did not renew the canola tolerances for vinclozolin, the active ingredient in Ronilan, meaning that any canola treated with the product in the 2009 season will not be acceptable for shipment to the U.S.

BASF has discontinued sales of Ronilan to distributors and retailers. Sales at the retail level have also been discontinued. According to the news release, all Ronilan currently in the marketplace for use on canola should be returned to the grower's retailer where a credit will be provided at full distributor price and the product will be replaced with Lance fungicide.
