Collection programs to expand under new CleanFarms Inc. banner

A simple program that fit an important need – collecting empty containers and obsolete pesticides - has provided the foundation for a new organization designed to more broadly address responsible management of agricultural wastes.

CleanFarms Inc. builds on stewardship programs started by CropLife Canada, Canada's plant science industry trade association, more than 20 years ago, according to a CropLife Canada release. In addition to continuing to deliver empty container and obsolete pesticide collection programs, the organization will also look at developing new programs to help reduce, reuse, recycle and safely dispose of other agricultural wastes.

"Canada's plant science industry is committed to properly managing he full lifecycle of its products. That commitment has made our stewardship initiatives extremely successful - so much so that it merits the creation of a separate entity," says Lorne Hepworth, president of CropLife Canada.

Leading CleanFarms Inc. will be general manager, Barry Friesen, who has a long history of leading recycling and waste management programs.
