New options for potato growers with Delegate insecticide

Posted: March 8, 2010

The fruit and vegetable insecticide Delegate WG is now registered for control of the two most common pests in potato crops – the Colorado potato beetle and the European Corn Borer.

Delegate WG is a Group 5 spinetoram insecticide, formulated as a wettable granule. According to Dow AgroSciences' announcement, it has limited toxicity to beneficial, predatory insects such as lacewings and ladybird beetles and is non toxic to bees when the spray residue is dry for three hours.

"Because it has such a low impact on most beneficial insects, Delegate is an excellent fit with Integrated Pest Mangement programs," says Jerry Olechowski, Horticulture Portfolio Manager with Dow AgroSciences.

Heat herbicide provides new tank-mix option for glyphosate

Posted: March 8, 2010

The registration of Heat herbicide offers western Canadian farmers a new option to enhance the performance of pre-seed or chemfallow glyphosate application, according to BASF Canada.

"Heat is a new innovation offering a completely unique class of chemistry that will provide great benefit for pre-seed and chemfallow applications," says Chris Vander Kant, BASF Western Herbicides Market Manager.

Heat includes pyrimidinedione chemistry with contact and systemic properties. It is registered as a tank-mix partner with all formulations of glyphosate and BASF does not recommend use alone.

The herbicide provides control of a range of broadleaf weeds up to the 8-leaf stage, including dandelion, narrow-leaved hawk's beard, volunteer canola (including Roundup Ready canola), wild buckwheat, kochia (including Group 2-resistant), and spring and winter annual cleavers (including Group 2-resistant).
