Tundra herbicide launched by Bayer CropScience
Posted: March 22, 2010
The ability to get three modes of action in one jug is a key advantage touted by Bayer CropScience of its new Tundra herbicide product.
The product offers both grassy and broadleaf weed control for wheat and barley that "eliminates the requirement for tank mixing" with an all-in-one product, says Bayer CropScience in a news release announcing the product launch.
"This product is crop safe in spring and durum wheat and barley, and has a wide window of application," says Lauren Davis, Manager of Cereal Crops-Herbicides. "Because Tundra does not require an additional herbicide tank mix adjuvant or surfactant, producers have more flexibility during the busy spray season."
Tundra is comprised of three active ingredients – pyrasulfotole (Group 27), bromoxynil (Group 6) and fenoxaprop-p-ethyl (Group 1) which offers quick reliable control and flexible recropping options. It can also be applied from 1 to 6-leaves on the main stem up to emergence of third tiller.

Seed treatment targets bacterial blight
Posted: March 22, 2010
Fighting bacterial blight in is a target of a collaboration between Syngenta Crop Protection Canada and Innovotech, and Edmonton-based biotech company.
Innovotech has developed an oxysilver nitriate product, called Agress, as a novel seed treatment to control bacterial blight in beans, peas, lentils, chickpeas and soybeans. According to a Syngenta news release, the company will assist with research trials for the product in North America.
"We are very pleased to play a part in the development of this new technology," said Coby Long, North American Seed Care marketing head at Syngenta.
Bacteria, like fungi, exist in the soil as part of a dynamic agricultural system. Dry beans as well as other crops, can be greatly affected by bacterial diseases. Bacterial blight is a serious problem for many crops with very few acceptable control products available to Canadian producers, says the release.
